May 26, 2012 - The same thing happened to me but he didn't get far since my camera strap was wrapped around my wrist. I ended up with his tentacles reaching up my arm all the way to my neck. Quite an experience!

I mean any animal can sense that the object isn't food right away, and even they couldn't, the diver would appear to be too much of a threat to stay and fight for it. The only logical explanation, as you implied, was to have fun.

May 25, 2012 - Octopuses do this all the time with divers out of boredom. What's DIFFERENT here is that this diver chased it and it wasn't expecting the diver to be so determined.  Once the octopus saw that he had new respect for the diver so he became friendly and realized he could have more fun playing with him now that he knew the diver wasn't afraid.
