Apr 10, 2012 - Yeah, it acts like an open diff. IT IS A FREAKING OPEN DIFF. Nowhere in this stupid video does it show or explain how it stops the spinning wheel. where is the friction??????? This is a rip off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How do they increase traction??? All I see in this video is an open diff with worm gears instead of spider gears!

SummitRacingVideos Says:

Apr 9, 2012 - Truetrac differentials are unique in that they increase traction but do not affect steering or wear out prematurely; these problems are common with limited-slip differentials that use clutch plates and springs. A TrueTrac performs like a conventional (open) differential, until there is a loss of traction.

SummitRacingVideos Says:

Apr 9, 2012 - Only then will the torque transfer occur - when it is needed. As with an open differential, the TrueTrac side (or spider) gears are interconnected by pinion gears, which allow one wheel to slow down or speed up as required. TrueTrac gears have spiral teeth and the pinions are mounted in pockets in the case.

SummitRacingVideos Says:

Apr 9, 2012 - If one wheel begins to lose traction , the pinions separate slightly from the side gear and wedge in the pockets. As torque increases, the separating force increases, thus slowing or stopping the spin-out. This allows torque to be distributed to the wheel with the best traction.

Apr 8, 2012 - WTF!!!! All this time, the Trutrac its just another freaking open diff? No clutches? Where in the hell does the friction come from to stop the spinning wheel? This is BS and it pisses me off. Here I thought I was going to pay $600.00 for a LSD. No fucking wonder many people say how the Trutrac doesn't do shit if one wheel is off the ground.

SummitRacingVideos Says:

Apr 5, 2012 - It should weigh approximately 25.95 lbs.

lstarhu Says:

Apr 5, 2012 - I want to know that how much does this diff weight?

SummitRacingVideos Says:

Apr 4, 2012 - Eaton Truetrac are similar in design to the Gleason Torsen(R), only the Truetrac hold up well with reasonably tall tires.

SummitRacingVideos Says:

Apr 4, 2012 - They use worm wheel gears that work on the same principle as a worm gear. When the unit is loaded, the worm wheels are forced away from each other and against the case. They develop locking torque by the light friction between the worm wheels and the case. This light friction is multiplied by the ratio of the worm wheel which depends on the size of the worm wheel relative to the size of the side gear.

SummitRacingVideos Says:

Apr 4, 2012 - The manufacturer can change the amount of torque biasing or lockup by simply changing the diameter of the gears, or the pitch and spiral of the teeth. A larger difference in the size for the worm wheels and side gears (smaller worm wheels and larger side gears) will increase the lockup force. Increasing the pitch and spiral of the teeth will also increase the lockup forces.

SummitRacingVideos Says:

Apr 4, 2012 - Like everything, there is a limit as to how much lockup force is reasonable. Making the unit too "aggressive" will cause tire scrub during everyday driving and will cause the unit to wear out too quickly. All of the feedback that I have received from customers indicates that the unit works very well for mud and snow, while going unnoticed during every day driving.

SummitRacingVideos Says:

Apr 4, 2012 - When used in situations like rocky trails where one wheel gets off the ground, the unit will not lock up 100%. Light application of the brakes will help the differential engage more transferring power to the tire that is still on the ground. For extreme situations where the vehicle will have one wheel in the air often a locking differential provides better power transfer to the wheel on the ground.

SummitRacingVideos Says:

Apr 4, 2012 - Eaton Truetrac are designed for medium duty 2WD and 4WD applications. They work well in the front and rear, and are so smooth that there is little or no hint of resistance in the steering wheel when used in front drive steering axles. Like the Gleason Torsen, the Eaton Truetrac does not bang or clunk, has no clutch chatter, does not wear out like clutch type positractions, does not need limited slip additive, and needs no preload or clearance adjustments.

Apr 4, 2012 - SparkDischarge: how is this different for a torsen differential?

marshjb Says:

Mar 24, 2012 - I had a truetrac in my 04' Lightning and I had never had issues with the one tire fire. Very solid and smooth and quiet also.

vasta0681859 Says:

Mar 17, 2012 - so with this diff what happend is both wheels have the most traction, will i be able to do 2 wheel burnouts with it??

SparkDischarge Says:

Mar 5, 2012 - If, by having one wheel off the ground, the traction difference exceeds the bias ratio [it does], that wheel will spin. In such a situation, hopefully brake actuated traction control will help you out. Or if this axle has a parking brake, pull it partially.

mariusesss Says:

Jan 10, 2012 - what will happen if one of the wheels lift off the ground? Will the diff still work(the grounded wheel get 100%), or will the lifted wheel spin(get 100%)?

eaxebxecxedx Says:

Dec 25, 2011 - so basically this differential delivers power to the wheel that has the MOST traction?

SparkDischarge Says:

Dec 21, 2011 - Honda's sh-AWD is a front wheel drive PTO system. Instead of one clutch & rear differential, Honda decided to not include a rear differential, and use two clutches, one for each rear wheel. Honda's system allows for 3 wheel drive. The idea is to not drive the inner rear wheel, in order to generate a torque upon the chassis, and increase rear outer slip angle, to aid in increasing yaw, and yaw rate.

biggdaddy2001 Says:

Dec 11, 2011 - isn't this a thorsen type of gear set

pogoboy123 Says:

Dec 9, 2011 - So is this how Acura's SH-AWD works?

Dec 8, 2011 - eaton Massa (Italy) closed!!! behavior and unethical ... eaton Shame Shame !!!!!! Eaton all talk and distinctive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nov 9, 2011 - Brake Traction Control + Helical (geared) LSD = Maximum Traction Solution with true auto-locking diff I have the setup in my Explorer and I really love it front end: 27 spline, Standard Rotation, Dana 30 Rear End: 31 spline Standard Rotation Ford 8.8

Munky332 Says:

Nov 1, 2011 - this is a geared LSD, not really the same as the locker you might be thinking of. While OK for offroading, a true locker would be better.
