May 25, 2012 - I've always felt that in his prime in the 80s he was ahead of his time and did things that had never been done before; but in today's game almost anyone can do what he did, the dekes and whatnot.

May 25, 2012 - GRETZKY..THE GREATEST HOCKEY PLAYER IN THE HISTORY OF PLANET EARTH.. .PERIOD!
MegaFeofan Says:
May 24, 2012 - Also I wonder if he played today, would he ever become a "youtube model" for a new generation of hockey players who want to copy their favorite player's flashy moves. He had these almost supernatural abilities yet his style was so simple. Not too many dekes and dangles to copy. So you wanna be like him? "Just" skate, shoot, score. Repeat 1000+ times.

May 22, 2012 - What is funny about you guys is that you're so far up your own publicity that you dont even mention Australian Test cricketer Donald Bradman whose batting average of 99.96 is 35 percentage points higher than the 2nd best player and that record is 65 years old when every other cricketing record has been smashed countless times. Gretzky and Jordan arnt even in the debate. You all believe too much of your own publicity,ITS A BIG WORLD OUT THERE AND YOU GUYS ARE JUST A SMALL PART OF IT

May 20, 2012 - In terms of popularizing the sports, Jordan has done better. Jordan brought the sport of basketball to Asia countries, especially China. The number of basketball fans skyrocketed by at least a billion during Jordan's prime. Before that, no one watched basketball except basketball fans in the US. But of couse, thats also due to the face that Hockey is also limited by geographic factors, such as ppl from South america simply dont play/watch hockey since its "too cold"

May 19, 2012 - Gretzky holds records simply on offense. Because most hockey stats are offensive stats excluding the goalie. His records all have to do with points and assists. Michael Jordan was the greatest scorer and one of the best defenders in the NBA. The only player to win a scoring title, and MVP, AND defensive player of the year. He was the first player in NBA history to have 200 steals and 100 blocks in one season. Jordan has a greater impact globally on many athletes playing different sports.
DatboyDoogie Says:
May 19, 2012 - Mike is the man im from Chicago but Gretzky had a greater impact, only player to score over 200 points in a season and he did it 4 times....got 2 statues outside two different buildings. he didnt have to wait to join the hall of fame and 99 is retired from ALL Nhl teams... he wrote the record book for reg season and play offs..shits crazy. and he lacked great speed and strength he was just hella smart.
OVECHKIN852 Says:
May 18, 2012 - why dont you factor in his peed wrist shot back hand deking skating and badass level.
Devine071 Says:
May 18, 2012 - Are you kidding? Michael Jordan had a greater impact on the NBA then Gretzky had on the NHL. In now way am I disrespecting Wayne, because he is the greatest hockey player ever, his records speak for themselves. But Jordan revolutionized basketball. Analysts have broken eras down to "pre Michael Jordan" and "post Michael Jordan." Michael abruptly retired for 2 years because his dad was murdered. If he didn't retire then, he probably would've racked up even greater stats. The WORLD knows Jordan.

May 18, 2012 - Nobody change ALL of sports unless you play ALL of those sports.
zyxwut321 Says:
May 18, 2012 - Gretzky reminds of Pele in that he put up inhuman goal numbers likely never to be replicated at a time when the athleticism of their sports and their leagues probably weren't quite up to today's standards and frankly through no fault of their own they were simply outsized fish in small ponds. Like Pele in the Brazilian league in the 50s and 60s Gretzky dominated the NHL in the late 70s and 80s in part because the competition was smaller. Still, their level raised the level and standards to come.
GreenhouseEffectGE Says:
May 18, 2012 - He changed ALL Of sports. Period.
mberry480 Says:
May 17, 2012 - if the game was apparently so simple back when he played, why did he win the scoring title by 74 POINTS in 85-86? n You don't think he would stand out today? Wow....the weed is good where you live, I see.
RRMUZIKINC Says:
May 17, 2012 - They were both incredible...nuff said!
Askar9992 Says:
May 17, 2012 - he is of polish, russian descent!! NO FRENCH blood... that's why he is the best!!
TheAnticapitor Says:
May 17, 2012 - That's like saying if Wilt Chamberland had played today, he never would've scored 100 points or 11 NBA championships. Or saying if Babe Ruth had played today, he never would've been great. The greats always rise above their competition regardless who they play against. Gretzky was good because he saw the ice better and could pass better than anyone. Fundamentals and teamwork help make the great better.
76niro Says:
May 16, 2012 - mario started playing in the mid 80s, gretzky in the early 80s...The trap started in the mid 90s...they basically played in the same era
RRMUZIKINC Says:
May 16, 2012 - Goalies sucked back then....untill Patrick Roy brought the "Butterfly" style..you can see a ridiculous amount of goals scored because the goalies were standing...My Vote is with Super Mario who at 50%,in constant Pain against the new defensive trap system and goalies who now all practice the "Butterfly" stance! Super Mario was still making fun of his opponents despite all these advancements in the game with ridiculously huge numbers... Holla!

May 12, 2012 - Sachin Tendulkar. Cricket player. Makes Gretzky's records look tame. And before you laugh, cricket is the 2nd most popular sport in the world.
