May 24, 2012 - We know no government is perfect, and labour did us no favours whatsoever, but the Tories make me sick,it's always the same with them, kick the poor, unemployed, disabled, low paid etc, never any different.Britian is run by a band of very rich men,and they could not give a stuff if we, like Marie Antoinette intoned "ate cake".

jayelmes71 Says:

May 23, 2012 - Totally agree with what you say. We have yet another tory goverment that will be happy to see more people in desperate position. More on the streets of not only london but towns as well.

May 20, 2012 - Hmm so many arguments over a song.. Music is like art its the interpretation of the listener that determines how they see the songs meaning.. To me this is about showing people the wonders of life in the simplest of things! And as for the argument over the name you should google the wiki page it explains all! Now everybody smile and enjoy the music! :)

MidnightMinstrel Says:

May 18, 2012 - An absolute classic (sure he missed a verse out though, the bit about the old girl with dirt in her hair etc, hmm! Have to go back and check) I once heard him say that it's not actually a song about the lonely , although they feature in it, it's actually about a massive row he'd had with a then girl friend who was complaining about him never being home enough, claimed he was out gallivanting and she was always at home alone, could be true I suppose.

claresongstres Says:

May 15, 2012 - I was a wee girl when this song was popular and brought up with guilt at having when others had not. I was one of fifteen children. myself and my children devote time to others on a voluntry basis and feel blessed that we have a warm house, food and the love of others

chris spiller Says:

May 14, 2012 - Ive seen a homeless guy who was given a meal, clean clothes and a place to live, who went on to work 40 hours a week for months for no wages, knowing that he maybe able to prevent others going through what he had to.Ive also worked with a volunteer who worked 40 hours a week for no wage, whilst he was homeless, knowing that he was helping others.I have worked with a man on full pay,who wouldnt stay til one minute past 5pm,without overtime. The last was a religious man.

chris spiller Says:

May 14, 2012 - Ive worked for the Salvation Army for ten years, and before that another charity. Its time that people should realise that we are all equal and life and a reasonable standard of lifestyle isnt a luxury,it is a right. No one should be homeless against their will.Nothing will change until you make it change. With love comes sharing and we should be teaching in schools that if I have 2 and you have none, then you will have one of mine.one step at a time my friends.Chris

LyricalWax Says:

May 10, 2012 - Thank you Arthur, my primary school music teacher who would play this on the guitar and taught us all the lyrics. It was my favourite song and would love it whenever it was played. "Yesterday's paper telling yesterday's news" really hit me as a wonderful line, even as a 7 year old.

Brainstormerbubble Says:

May 6, 2012 - This was one of the most inspirational songs ever made, loved it back then and still do today, thanks so much for posting it here :)

Adrian Lenton Says:

Apr 29, 2012 - This beautiful and meaningful song takes me back to the easy days in London. I wish things had carried on like it was in 60s and 70s and life was less hard for so many folk today. Ellie

paganuspaul Says:

Apr 27, 2012 - Irrelevant where it was written, or the specifics or when, it is a song that is unfortunately just as relevant now as it ever was.

Apr 24, 2012 - i love his song!!

LauncestonArts Says:

Apr 23, 2012 - Then you can stand corrected! Ralph McTell lived in Paris at the time and wrote the song about, you guessed it, Paris. According to his own words, there was another song called The Roads of Paris or some such so he changed the setting to London. He talks about it on another youtube vid. Anyway, it's a great song, eh?

darkflamerpunkboy Says:

Apr 22, 2012 - you know, now this is only a guess but i think its pretty good, i think its about london, because, its called...wait for it... the streets of LONDON.
