May 20, 2012 - I was in awe of Parker and Monk when I learned their melodies, harmonized them, improvised over the progressions, but when I started learning Duke I only had one damn thought: how the fuck did he come up with this shit? The passion and the love that is behind every aspect of each of his compositions is a fucking mystery.
TheObituarist Says:
May 20, 2012 - Maybe, as a trend, but quite a few musicians would agree, but many would also agree that Solitude, Prelude To A Kiss, let alone Perdido and In A Mellow Tone, in particular, are brilliant displays of Ellington's genius. I didn't appreciate his music until I started fully harmonizing his melodies. Duke is special. It takes work to understand him. He is much more difficult than Parker or Monk.

May 20, 2012 - Best damn documentary on jazz I have ever watched! Marsalis, you could not have put the meaning of jazz in better words, let alone offered a more prolific idea of how we all might go about setting aside our differences.

I'm not gonna try and trade subscriptions here, but if you put a comment on my channel I guarantee to check out ur work, and if it's good you have my word on a sub. Regardless I'll comment you back with my honest opinion on what I like and what I think could use improvement. Thank you in advance for everyone who actually take a minute to read this and take it seriously.

Mar 27, 2012 - take the "A" train by Duke Ellington. considered his orchestra's theme song by some people. Some of the most famous changes ever created, next of course to the blues.

Sep 24, 2011 - Goddamn I love jazz! I love all forms of jazz pre-1960s. Jazz, you are the poetic mistress of my life. You have helped me, inspired me and accompanied through all the hard times I have endured. Jack Hylton, Benny Goodman, John Coltrane, Art Blakey, Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, Jack Derns, Duke Ellington, Slatz Randall, you have been with me for my whole 23 years.
