EOS 5DMark2 and 1DsMark3: night shots are 30-second exposures, ISO 3200 and 6400, 16mm lens. Still frames strung together using iMovie. See: www.danheller.com From afternoon to late night of one day, this time-lapse video of Crater Lake was shot on a splendid evening just as a crescent moon was setting, followed by a stunning view of the milky way passing over the lake. To those brave men and women who fly alone in the night to take us to the stars, we salute you. ----------------------- Sequences: 1. North-to-south down the western coast of North and South America. 2. North-to-south over Florida, the Bahamas and other Caribbean islands. 3. South-East Asia, approaching the Philippine Sea 4. Western Europe, from France through Italy, Greece, Turkey and the Middle East. 5. Aurora Australis, over the Indian Ocean, approaching Australia 6. Aurora Australis, over the Indian Ocean. 7. Aurora Australis, unknown location in the Southern Hemisphere. ----------------------- Featured on NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day! apod.nasa.gov Explanation from NASA: Many wonders are visible when flying over the Earth at night. A compilation of such visual spectacles was captured recently from the International Space Station (ISS) and set to rousing music.
Nikon D800 Night Time Lapse Tutorial

www.learningdslrvideo.com I got the Nikon D800 and the Canon 5D Mark III in for review. To play around with the low light performance I thought I would have fun do to a time lapse with the D800, and shoot the garage scenes with the Canon 5D Mark III. Prices: ----------- Canon 5D Mark III: www.bhphotovideo.com Nikon D800: www.bhphotovideo.com I set the D800 on a tripod in the backseat of our mini van and use shock cords to tie it down. I used an ISO 100, 3.2 f-stop and .4 second shutter speed and I focused way out in front of the car. Going in to the menu system on the Nikon I went to the 'Shooting Menu' - 'Interval Timer Shooting'. I then picked one second between shots for my interval. The manual shows 1 minute, but I put a 0 there. I then went to 'start' on and pressed the OK button. Before I started driving I wanted to see if the buffer in the camera could handle it on RAW, but after 10 exposures the camera slowed to a halt and couldn't handle the over 70meg files I was sending its way. So I used the smallest jpg size and since that was still bigger in resolution to the 1080p video I was still in good shape. Many ways to do this but one of my favorite is to use After Effects to process the images. Since I couldn't shoot RAW I decided to skip the step of bring them in to Lightroom first. After Effects Procedure Open After Effects, and double click on the upper left pane on Project Tab.
London night time lapse/stop-motion - Fleet Street to Holborn Viaduct

Sequence of photographs turned into a video. ______ ROUTE: Starting at Aldwych, along Fleet st to St Paul's Cathedral, to the Bank of England, to the Lloyd's and Gherkin buildings, then along Bishopsgate to London Wall, to the Museum of London, then finishing at Holborn Viaduct. ____________________ EQUIPMENT / METHOD: I used an Olympus EPL1 camera with a Panasonic Lumix 20mm f/1,7 pancake lens in continuous shot mode. I attached a fisheye lens for most of the footage to capture more scenery. NB As the EPL1 doesn't take a shutter release cable I used a makeshift device that physically holds the shutter down. I turned my bike into a tripod dolly and wheeled it around London, with some bits taken fully hand hand for greater control [these are the more wobbly scenes]. ______ SOFTWARE: I used quicktime pro to convert the image sequence into a video, then I edited the video using 'Open Shot Video Editor' [a free Linux program], then I used the deshaker plugin filter in Virtual Dub to smooth it out a bit. _____ MUSIC: I couldn't find a piece of music that fitted the video, so I made one myself. Hope you like it. Here it is on Soundcloud: snd.sc --

Tags: london night timelapse time lapse time-lapse stop motion stop-motion stopmotion olympus epl1 e-pl1 pen compact camera photography photographs evening continuous shot panasonic lumix 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens anatoleya st pauls paul's cathedral bank england gherkin lloyds lloyd's bishopsgate strand fleet street museum

StarGazer 4 - Timelapse Night Skies 720p HD

4th in the Stargazer series, this installment features beautiful hi-resolution footage captured in and around the city of Santa Clarita, and Castaic Lake, California. A Canon 5D Mk2 DSLR (with Canon 17-40mm 4.5L and Tokina 10-17mm fisheye lenses) was used to capture most of the images, with a few being shot with a Nikon D5100. Many sequences here are shown with and without JCMDI proprietary star trail compositing techniques for breathtaking views of the stars and their apparent movement across the sky. Enjoy in full-screen HD with the lights out and headphones on for maximum effect! =) The soundtrack is "Painted Ladies Theme" from the "StarSpin" CD by Technician (yours truly), digital album and single track downloads are available from the Nimbit Records storefront at the official Technician website/CD page here: technician.jcmdi.comFull artist discography and CDs available at technician.jcmdi.com Note This is copyrighted material, however, you may download this footage directly from YouTube and use it free of charge in your own non-profit/non-commercial YouTube videos.
Astrophotography Timelapse - My First Night Out

www.learningdslrvideo.com I have always been a sucker for really well done astro timelapse from people like Tom Lowe, TSO Photography and Randy Halverson. This past weekend I drove up into the mountains for a camping weekend with my oldest daughter. Every so often my wife and I like to split up our girls so we can get some one on one time with each girl. I knew we would get a chance to talk and tell ghost stories around the campfire. My photography goal for this trip was to try my first time lapse of the stars, I had ideas of grandeur of quality equal to Tom Lowe and others, and I was even more excited to try after I watched Tom Guilmette's awesome BTS video about Timefest. When I packed up the car in the morning there was not a cloud in the sky, however as we drove up to RMNP the clouds started forming. The previous weekend with my other daughter I got rain out at night and didn't want a repeat performance from Mother nature. By the time we setup up camp it started to drizzle. It rained on our hike but after that the clouds started to break up giving me some hope that we would have a clear night sky. Long's Peak The object of the timelapse was Long's Peak. Years ago I climbed this 14256' mountain with a friend in what turned out to be the nasty night camping ever, instead of starting out at 2am to start the hike with a day pack and head lamp on, my friend and I decided to take heavy packs in the afternoon and camp in the boulder field just below the sharp cliffs you see <b>...</b>

Tags: T2i 550d T3i 600D 7D 60D DSLR EOS Canon Rebel HDDSLR HDSLR HD DSLR Premiere Pro CS5 Dave Dugdale Camera digital lenses zoom lighting tips techniques training setup class tutorials workshop Learning DSLR Video video videózás Course Instructions how to Magic Lantern Astrophotography timelapse

Cerro Paranal in the Atacama Desert of Chile is truly an astronomers paradise with its stunningly dark, steady and transparent sky. The barren Atacama Desert is home to some of the world's leading telescopes. Operated by the European Southern Observatory (eso.org) the Very Large Telescope (VLT) is located on Paranal, composed of four 8 m telescopes which can combine their light to make a giant telescope by interferometry. Four smaller auxiliary telescopes, each 1.8 m in aperture, are important elements of the VLT interferometer.
ESO ALMA Antenna Time Lapse #1 [720p]

Time-lapse of a whole night at the ALMA Array Operations Site (AOS), located at 5000 meters altitude on the Chajnantor plateau, in the II Region of Chile. As the Moon sets at the beginning of the night, three of the first ALMA antennas start tests as part of the ongoing Commissioning and Science Verification process. Because they are pointing at the same target in the sky at any moment, their movements are perfectly synchronized. As the sky appears to rotate clockwise around the south celestial pole (roughly on the upper left edge of the video), the Milky Way goes down slowly, until it is lying almost horizontal before sunrise. The center of our galaxy becomes visible during the second half of the night as a yellowish bulge crossed by dark lanes in the center of the image, just above the antennas. The flashes on the ground are the car lights of the guards patrolling at the AOS. ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array is the largest astronomical project in existence and is a truly global partnership between the scientific communities of East Asia, Europe and North America with Chile. ESO is the European partner in ALMA.
Finding Oregon

Produced 2011 by Uncage the Soul Productions Ben Canales, John Waller, Steve Engman, Blake Johnson www.uncagethesoul.com To plan your adventure to Oregon, visit Travel Oregon at http Finding Oregon is the compilation of six months of timelapse photography across the state of Oregon, punctuated by a 1600 mile road trip in September. We've filmed the Columbia River Gorge, Mt Hood, Mt Jefferson, the Southwestern Coast, the Alvord Desert, Leslie Gulch, Blue Mountains, Crater Lake, Eagle Cap Wilderness, Deschutes River, and more. We're proud to have touched all four corners of the state; however Oregon is the kind of place that the more you see, the more places there are to still discover. The greatest challenge with this project was being in the right place at the right time. Night timelapse sequences particularly have an unexpected number of requirements to get the bright, stunning payoff. First, the moon should be around the New Moon phase (no moon) so as not to compete with outshining the stars, so that means we get about 5 days a month window. Next, weather must be cooperative with a dependable expectancy of cloudless skies. Here in Oregon, only the Summer months have good chance of clear skies, so only 1/4 of the year offers good chance of clear skies. So that means, we have three months in the year, with a 5 day window each month to plan with fingers crossed for epic star shooting conditions. That's only 15 days in a year. Then, you hope that something doesn't come up <b>...</b>

Tags: timelapse dynamic perceptions night timelapse Oregon Portland Canon 1DM4 Canon 5DM2 Alvord Desert Mt Hood Oregon Coast Columbia Gorge Uncage the Soul Productions stars

ESO ALMA Antenna Time Lapse #2 [720p]

Time-lapse of a whole night at the ALMA Array Operations Site (AOS), located at 5000 meters altitude on the Chajnantor plateau, in the II Region of Chile. As the Moon sets at the beginning of the night, three of the first ALMA antennas start tests as part of the ongoing Commissioning and Science Verification process. Because they are pointing at the same target in the sky at any moment, their movements are perfectly synchronised. As the sky appears to rotate clockwise around the south celestial pole (behind the rightmost, stationary antenna), the center of the Milky Way, initially visible in the upper left as a yellowish bulge crossed by dark dust lanes, disappears from view. Then, the Small and Large Magellanic Clouds, two neighboring galaxies of the Milky Way, rise from behind the two antennas on the right. The lightning was mokre flashes than bolts, unfortunately. The camera got a bit wet, but nothing serious as it was under a tiny hut roof. Note2: The bright star is Jupiter. Not the moon. Jupiter happens to be the closest to the Earth in its orbit, and it's directly opposite the sun, making very bright (like that of a full moon).

Tags: time lapse star trails stars milky way night photography stopmotion
