]]> UPDATE: Canon 5D Mark II / 50D Fluorine sensor filter cleaning Canon has recently released more information regarding their new fluorine coated sensor filters found in the 5Dm2 and 50D cameras. The most notable changes being the placement of the Dichroic mirror coating on the backside of the low pass filter, facing the sensor. The other highlight is the fluorine barrier coating on the exposed surface which act much like a Teflon coating. This coating is used to help repel oils, solvents, dust and mold spores. The video also includes the approval and use of Dust-Aid sensor cleaning products on this new sensor filter.

Quick export from the Premiere Pro timeline with no post-processing effect applied to any clip, though I usually like to bump the contrast slightly on the XF's footage. The 5D Mark II footage was shot at 1/60 f/1.2 Manual mode with a 50mm f/1.2L lens on the Manfrotto video monopod in 1080p 30fps mode (Can't remember the ISO). The XF100 footage was shot using manual shutter 1/60 widest aperture (f/1.4 if it lets me) from a Manfrotto fluid video tripod at the back of the church. The subject, ace stand in Chris Clement, was roughly five feet from the camera. This isn't meant to be an aesthetic test to show the difference in image quality between the two cameras. It's a down and dirty field guide for myself and the other shooters we work with so we can quickly figure what lens we want to use on each camera. We go from 20mm all the way to 100mm with a Lensbaby composer thrown in at the very end. This video shows the difference in term of FOV between the full frame Canon EOS 5D Mark II (reviews) and the 1.6 crop factor Canon EOS 7D (reviews) using the same lenses.

]]> Testing 5DM2 w/ Steadicam Merlin Arm & Vest This was just us playing around on the driveway to do a couple of tests. First test was using the 5D Mark II with a Canon FD 35mm F/2.8 lens. Second test was using the new Steadicam Merlin & Vest outfit. (really like it). Third test was trying to sync Audio in post. I heard it might be tricky with the Canon 5D shooting at 30fps. (Lip sync wasn't fully committed, we were just testing). Overall I was happy with the quality of the FD lens mount. The Merlin was easy to balance and the vest offers support for long shooting periods. ]]> HDR/Magic Lantern - Canon 5D Mark II Test Video I was able to get my hands on the new Magic Lantern build a day early so we went out and grabbed some test shots at one of our favorite locations (from The McCormick Brothers) above Foster Lake in Oregon. HDR (High Dynamic Range) is performed in camera by capturing two different ISO values. Most of these shots were at ISO 100-800 or 200-1600. Those two streams are then split and re-fused back together in post production to produce the HDR video. Magic Lantern is free for download and everything you need to produce HDR video is included and also free. Alex is truly a pioneer and he is offering the 5D Mark II build to those who donate.
