SM6LKM's brilliant little VLF receiver implemented entirely in software and available free via the internet. This allows monitoring of the 0-22kHz VLF bands. The 3 Russian alpha beacons are clearly audible in daylight at around 20-25dB S/N. See sites.google.com

VLF Beacon Transmitter (8.760kHz)
My 5W QRP QRSS3 and 10wpm CW beacon used to transmit at 8.760kHz VLF under the terms of my OFCOM amateur radio NoV. Best DX so far is 5.1km by utilities assisted earth mode. Signals at this distance are not as strong as at 0.838kHz. Experiments are continuing.
